First Aid: Tips from the Red Cross Salzburg


Electric Love Festival is a place full of unforgettable moments, intense music, and a unique sense of community – but amidst all the euphoria, safety should never be overlooked. To help you enjoy the festival to the fullest, the Salzburg Red Cross has compiled essential health and first aid tips. From sun protection to emergency numbers: here’s how to be well-prepared for any situation.

Clothing and Protection

– Sun Protection: A hat to prevent sunstroke and sunscreen to avoid sunburn.
Rain Gear: Sudden weather changes are possible.
Warm Clothing: Nights can get chilly.
Sturdy Footwear: Uneven terrain often leads to ankle injuries.

Health and Precautionary Measures-
–  Hydration: Drink 2–3 liters of water daily. Free drinking water stations are available in the main festival area.
– Rest Breaks: Don’t overexert yourself.
– Hearing Protection: Available for free at the stages.
– Emergency Kit: Bring plasters, medication, and a basic first aid pack.

First Aid for Common Issues

Sunburn
– Cool the skin and stay in the shade.
– For severe burns, contact a doctor.

Heat Emergency / Sunstroke
– Symptoms: Headache, nausea, dizziness, flushed face.
– Actions: Move to shade, apply cool cloths, drink non-alcoholic beverages, and keep the upper body elevated.

Bone and Joint Injuries
– Immobilize and cool the affected area, remove jewelry.
– For severe pain or fractures, call 144.

Cuts & Scrapes
– Clean the wound and cover it with a sterile bandage.
– Consult a doctor if there’s an infection or outdated tetanus vaccination.

Poisoning
– Spit out substances, place the person in the recovery position.
– Call 144 or the Poison Control Center (+43 1 406 43 43).

Hypothermia
– Move the person to a warm place, provide blankets and warm (non-alcoholic) drinks.
– Avoid alcohol, massages, or forcing movement.

Collapse
– Elevate the legs and monitor the person.
– If unconsciousness persists, call 144.


 

If It Gets Serious

Stay calm, move the person to a cool, shaded area, and call emergency services immediately. Stay with them until help arrives.
