Skantia (Charlie Roberts) is a rising force in drum and bass, known for his distinctive “maximal minimal” style that fuses jump-up energy, deep rolling basslines, and tech-driven club sounds. Hailing from Newcastle upon Tyne, he initially immersed himself in the local DNB scene before shifting his full focus toward DJing and music production.

He began producing seriously around 2016–2017, releasing early material on respected labels such as Nemesis Recordings, Lifestyle Music, Faceless Audio, and ProgRAM. His breakthrough came when a demo caught the attention of the RAM Records team, including Andy C, leading to an exclusive signing around 2019. Andy C quickly championed Skantia’s music, regularly playing standout tracks such as “Cluster” and his remix of Loko’s “Bassline Secret” in club sets and radio shows, helping propel him into the international spotlight.

Since then, Skantia’s catalogue has expanded to include collaborations with key figures in the scene such as Annix, Turno, Bladerunner, KY, and AC13. Notable releases include the Connection EP and high-impact singles such as “Cluster,” “Power Line,” “Jubilant,” and “Yoyo Bop.” The latter became a major breakthrough track, topping the Beatport drum and bass charts for over two weeks in 2024.

In May 2022, Skantia released his debut album Common Ground on RAM Records. The album documents the evolution of his sound between 2018 and 2022, showcasing a refined balance of jump-up, rollers, and tech-heavy bass. Described by Skantia as “a timestamp on what I’ve been making over the past three or four years,” the project embraces the album format as a full statement of his artistic identity.

More recently, Skantia has continued to evolve his sound, experimenting with vocal-led compositions and garage-influenced rhythms, pushing beyond strictly club-focused productions while maintaining his trademark energy and precision.
